Living room entertainment centers are the most common, but there is no hard-and-fast rule that says your living room has to be where everyone gathers to watch TV. Maybe you’d rather outfit your front room with some nice living room furniture and make it more of a conversational space.
Alternative spaces for setting up an entertainment center include your basem*nt, a family room/den, or in a spare room. That said, art and plants are always great additions to the tops of any entertainment center. Just be mindful of the shelving dimensions. As televisions have gotten thinner, so have entertainment center shelves. It’s best to only put lightweight or small items on the top of the unit.
If you don’t have much space above your entertainment center, it can be tempting to fill any empty space on the unit’s shelves with decorative items. Be careful not to go overboard! Putting too many tchotchkes into the space just makes it look cluttered.
